FAQs

Got Egypt travel FAQs? Here are answers to the questions our customers ask us most before booking their Egypt adventure.

Is it safe to travel to Egypt?

Yes. Millions of British tourists visit Egypt every year, and the main tourist areas — Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, and the Nile itself — are well accustomed to visitors and have a strong tourism infrastructure. As with any international trip, we recommend checking the latest FCDO travel advice before you go, and our team can advise on specific areas if you have any concerns.

Do I need a visa to visit Egypt?

Most UK passport holders need a visa to enter Egypt. This can usually be arranged as an e-Visa online before you travel, or as a visa on arrival at the airport for a fee. Requirements can change, so we always confirm the latest visa process for your specific trip and dates when you book with us.

Is Simply Egypt financially protected?

Yes. Simply Egypt is an ABTA member (P601X) and our flight-inclusive holidays are ATOL protected (3634), so your money and your trip are safeguarded in line with UK travel regulations.

Is Egypt a good destination for families?

Absolutely. Many of our Nile cruises and hotel stays welcome children, and destinations like Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh have family-friendly resorts with pools, kids’ clubs, and calmer paced excursions. Let us know you’re travelling with children and we’ll tailor recommendations accordingly.

Is Egypt suitable for solo travellers?

Yes — solo travel to Egypt is common, particularly on guided Nile cruises where you’ll be part of a group for excursions, which adds both company and an extra layer of reassurance. We can advise on single supplement costs and the best itineraries for solo guests.

What’s the best time of year to visit Egypt?

The cooler months from October to April are the most popular for comfortable sightseeing, especially around Luxor and Aswan. Summer (June–August) is hot but can suit those focused on Red Sea resorts like Hurghada, where sea breezes help. We’re happy to advise based on what you want from your trip.

What’s typically included in a Nile cruise package?

Our Nile cruise packages typically include return flights, transfers, full-board accommodation on your cruise ship, and a programme of guided excursions to major sites like the Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple, and Philae Temple. Exact inclusions vary by itinerary, so we’ll confirm everything clearly at the time of booking.

How far in advance should I book?

We’d recommend booking at least a few months ahead for the best availability on flights and cruise cabins, especially during peak season (October–April). That said, we can often accommodate shorter-notice bookings — get in touch and we’ll check what’s available.

What currency should I take to Egypt?

The Egyptian Pound (EGP) is the local currency, and it’s useful to carry some cash for tips, small purchases, and local markets. Most hotels, cruise ships, and larger shops accept card payments, but we always recommend having some local currency on hand for smaller vendors and excursions.

Do I need any vaccinations to travel to Egypt?

There are no mandatory vaccinations for UK travellers visiting Egypt, though it’s always worth checking with your GP or a travel health clinic a few weeks before you go, as recommendations can change. We can point you toward official NHS travel health guidance if you’d like a starting point.

Still have questions? Our friendly Egypt travel experts are here to help — whether you’d like advice on the right itinerary, help understanding visa requirements, or just want to talk through your options before booking, get in touch and we’ll guide you every step of the way.

What our customers say

We are proud to have received so many positive reviews from our customers. Here are just a few of the things they have said about us.

The experience overall was amazing. The Pyramid Valley Hotel is the perfect location for visiting the sites of Giza with a free view of the Pyramids lightshow from the rooftop restaurant. The MS Royal Viking was a lovely ship.

Mr Southwell

This was our third stay in Rixos Sharm el Sheikh. The complex is well run by a team of dedicated friendly staff that make one feel welcome at all times.
